Daily Horoscopes, Chinese Astrology, Charts, Tarot, and Readings by Free Astrology.ca
While sometimes being eerily accurate and at times also being completely off the mark, horoscopes are seen as frivolous by some, entertainment by others and followed religiously by many people in this world. Regardless, astrology is much more complex than the daily horoscope and has a long, complicated history which spans thousands of years and across many different cultures.
Astrology is defined as the study of interaction between the stars and the planets using complex mathematical calculations and used to predict, among other things, the future, a person’s personality or the luck they will have in life. The earliest records of Astrology date back to Babylon, in 1645BC, and the earliest known horoscope to 410BC.
The Chinese have used horoscopes for thousands of years to predict the future. Many ancient civilizations helped to develop the astrological tools we use today: ancient Egyptians mastered timekeeping and calendars, Ptolemy in Greece authored many astrological texts and the most educated men in Rome were astrologers who ruled the Roman empire by the stars’ commands.
In the Christian era, the Renaissance saw a great increase in the popularity of Astrology. King Henry VIII was, according to the stars, going to have a son as his second child, causing great celebration throughout the kingdom of England until the baby who would become Queen Elizabeth I was born. However, after the astrology-predicted great conjunction of 1524 failed to be realized, popularity all but diminished.
While there were still those who practiced astrology, it remained unpopular until the birth of Princess Margaret in 1930, after whose birth the London Sunday Express ran what would later be known as the first modern horoscope.
Today, most people know the basics of our modern horoscope, such as whether they are an Aires or a Scorpio. Nearly every daily newspaper features a daily horoscope, telling people whether they will have a good day, whether finance troubles will take over or whether they will meet the loves of their lives. With this huge increase in science and technology, rather than turning away from the more faith-based astrology, people are turning towards it as a way to get away from the technology and stress that the modern world has brought.
Whether or not you believe in astrology, the facts remain: it has been widely practices across many cultures for thousands of years, including in the modern age. It may have changed slightly through the times, but it is undeniably still well rooted in our society and without it chances are our science and mathematics might not be where they are today.
